OpenFlexure Block Stage

Achieve sub-micron mechanical positioning with our 3D printable Block Stage - a cost-effective, open-source alternative to commercial fibre alignment stages.

OpenFlexure Block Stage

High-precision, 3-axis translation stage

The OpenFlexure Block Stage is a 3D printable design that enables very fine (sub-100nm) mechanical positioning of a small moving stage over a range of 2×2×2mm, with excellent mechanical stability (1.6µm drift in 16 hours). You can read about it in the Optics Express article (open access). It follows on from the OpenFlexure Microscope which is discussed in a paper in Review of Scientific Instruments (open access). Currently, it’s designed to function as a more-or-less drop in replacement for fibre alignment stages available from various scientific suppliers, but the project aims to be useful in electrophysiology, nanotechnology, and many more.

You can see all the development on the gitlab repository and download the STL files from inside the assembly instructions.
